Virtua Fighter 5 (バーチャファイター5) is the fifth game in Sega’s Virtua Fighter series and direct sequel to Virtua Fighter 4. It was released on July 12, 2006 into Japanese arcades, and to PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2007.
It was followed in the arcades by Virtua Fighter 5 R in 2008, and Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown in 2010. Final Showdown was released as a downloadable title on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in June 2012.

New Characters
Two new characters are featured in Virtua Fighter 5. The first character, Eileen, is a young girl who uses Monkey Kung Fu and enters the tournament to face her idol, Pai, whom she saw at a martial arts demonstration prior to the fifth tournament. The second character is El Blaze, a lucha libre wrestler who wishes to defeat Wolf Hawkfield.

Ranking System
The ranking system in Virtua Fighter 5 is different from Virtua Fighter 4. The following outlines the ranks obtainable:
After the Dan ranks, a character’s title is dependent on winning percentage.
This implementation has led to some players’ confusion as to what is the highest rank. Upon obtaining «Conqueror» players have not gone through the other two ranking trees, and so, believe that other ranks exist above them. A character’s winning percentage can and does change over time. This can lead to crossing from one rank tree to another (i.e. an «Enforcer» can rank up to «Barbarian» and then up or down to «Vindicator» or «Protector»). The only time a rank tree is final is when a character obtains their 28th rank, «Liberator», «Destroyer», or «Conqueror». It is impossible to change ranks once a character obtains their final rank, the experience bar stops moving, even when fighting other 28th rank opponents. It also appears to be impossible to rank down from this level, locking a character into their final title.

Version B (PlayStation 3)
The PlayStation 3 port is based around the Version B revision. On January 16, 2008 Sega confirmed online features will not be added to the PlayStation 3 version due to the Version B’s technical limitations.
Version C (Xbox 360)
The Xbox 360 port of Virtua Fighter 5, released as Virtua Fighter 5 Online in North America, and Virtua Fighter 5 Live Arena in Japan, benefits from the additions and refinements that have been made to the Version C arcade revision, including online play and an online update ability.

Version D added pirate-themed costumes and accessories, and weapons for characters to use during win poses.
Virtua Fighter 5 R
Released for the arcades on July 24th 2008, Virtua Fighter 5 R features brand new stages as well as a new character named Jean Kujo, who practices Karate. The sumo wrestler Taka-Arashi also returns, making his first appearance since Virtua Fighter 3 and bringing the fighter count up to 20 (counting Dural).
Version B of Virtua Fighter 5 R was officially released in the Japanese arcades on May 21, 2009. This version featured changes in the animations of moves on all the characters, as well as changes to enhance the gameplay modes, and an improved camera system. Version C was released on November 25, 2009. However this particular version mainly added new team items for the character’s outfits.
Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown
Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown was officially released in Japanese arcades on July 29th 2010, and features new character costumes and animations. Version A of Final Showdown was released on April 20, 2011. Final Showdown released on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 as a downloadable title on June 2012, with online play on both platforms.
Virtua Fighter 5 Ultimate Showdown
Virtua Fighter 5 Ultimate Showdown was officially released on June 1, 2021, and features new character costumes, BGM, graphics and animations, developed by Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio (known developer of the Yakuza series) and powered by their in-house Dragon Engine. It is currently exclusive to the PlayStation 4.

Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown
В современной игровой индустрии линейка Virtua Fighter занимает довольно неоднозначную позицию. С одной стороны, главный файтинг SEGA — одна из икон давно забытой консоли Saturn, редкий пример виртуальных восточных единоборств, в которых минимум азиатской дичи. Тут нет сорокаступенчатых комбо, как в Street Fighter или Dead or Alive, а в роли бойцов вместо привычных для жанра карате-школьниц и прочих стереотипных персонажей выступают близкие и понятные даже западному игроку архетипы (например, японский пьяница или суровый австралийский рыбак). С другой стороны, как и половина всех азиатских файтингов, сериал крепко держится за свое аркадное прошлое (родина оригинальной Virtua Fighter — душные залы игровых автоматов), чем отпугивает многих новичков: в эпоху возродившегося Mortal Kombat и искрометных кроссоверов вроде Marvel vs. Capcom старомодный файтинг трогает немногих.
Впрочем, есть и другая причина умеренной популярности игры за пределами Японии. SEGA, можно сказать, забила на сериал. После релиза Virtua Fighter 5 в 2007 году на Xbox 360 и PS3 (аркадная версия традиционно появилась чуть раньше) фанаты пять лет глотали пыль, в то время как новые части Street Fighter появлялись на разных платформах и во всех мыслимых формах. Впрочем, раздражает это лишь формально, а в процессе игры вообще вылетает из головы. Главное, что Virtua Fighter наконец-то вернулся, причем именно в том виде, о котором многие мечтали, — в разумной степени упрощенный, с новым контентом и отличным мультиплеером.

Dural (デュラル, Dyuraru) is the main antagonist of the video game series Virtua Fighter.
Dural appears as the final boss of the Arcade mode in all Virtua Fighter games. The player is given only one match against her; whether or not Dural is defeated, the game is over. Dural is playable in each game via an entered code or fulfilling set criteria, but has no officially published move lists.
Dural’s fighting style is an amalgamation of various moves [1] taken from several fighters in each game. Consequently, she may string together unique combinations that cause incredible damage and defeat players very quickly. Her style also augments some of the original fighters’ moves to make them even more damaging.

History
Dural was previously a human woman. Her name was Tsukikage and she was both Kage-Maru’s mother and a Kunoichi. When the mysterious corporation Judgement 6 noticed her exemplary fighting ability and resilient body, they captured her and used her as their prototype for their terrifying Dural project. Arming her body with various cybernetic enhancements and brainwashing, she became a cyborg, immune to feeling.
Since then, Kage has attempted to retrieve Tsukikage and restore her to her former self, finally succeeding in Virtua Fighter 3. However, he needed parts to keep her inhuman body operational, and when he retrieved them, she became even less human than before. Now Kage enters the 4th tournament to end his mother’s suffering and return her to normal.
Meanwhile, the J6 corporation has their eyes on Sarah Bryant, their former brainwashed minion, as the subject for their next Dural project.
Appearance
Dural appears as a humanoid woman in all of her incarnations. Her skin is made of a reflective and solid chrome, making her the only character to produce metallic «clanking» noises when hit. As graphics capabilities improved with each successive game, her appearance became much more streamlined.
Virtua Fighter & Virtua Fighter 2
Dural assumes Sarah’s profile and fighting stance (Akira’s stance in VF2), and silver or gold pallette swaps. The polygonal count is comparably low, giving Dural’s body a jagged edged look. In the second game, she develops full facial features, including eyes, a nose, ears, and mouth. Virtua Fighter 2 also contains a video animation of Dural shedding her metal skin to reveal Tsukikage beneath, as a reward for completing the game without losing a match. Dural shares Akira’s stage as the boss of the first game. She has a unique stage in Virtua Fighter 2 in the sunken ruins of Atlantis, where the underwater viscosity hampers the speed of her attacks and those of her opponent.
Virtua Fighter 3
Dural assumes Sarah’s profile and Akira’s stance. She wears a gold skin, or a silver skin which appears black under some stages’ lighting. The polygonal count was greatly increased, giving her body a much smoother look that reflects light well. As the match progresses, Dural’s body may gradually become transparent, making visual detection difficult. Her stage is chosen randomly from the other players’ arenas, with a yellow haze cast over the field.
Virtua Fighter 4
Dural assumes Sarah’s profile and a unique fighting stance. She sports a silver or light blue skin when playable. In Arcade mode, she may also feature a new «stealth» skin which bends the light around her body to camouflage her into the background, making visual detection more difficult. From this game onward, Dural can be heard breathing heavily when immobile. Her stage is set on a conveyor belt in a J6 warehouse, which moves down a corridor featuring other Dural models stored in niches in the walls.
Virtua Fighter 5
The new V-Dural model features Vanessa’s profile and stance. She features four skins: silver, black, and stealth from previous games, as well as a new skin of durable stone, assimilated from her stage of stone ruins, the Sanctuary.
In Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown, when facing V-Dural in bonus stage, the Sanctuary is drastically different than its selectable counterparts.
In Virtua Fighter 5 Ultimate Showdown, she is not an unlockable hidden playable character in the initial release of the remake update of the game. Also, her stage is in a laboratory testing ground, the Genesis, instead of in the Sanctuary.
Virtua Fighter Kids
In Virtua Fighter Kids, Dural is depicted as a young girl (6 to 9 years old). In her nonviolent ending, she buys a balloon from a salesman and floats away into the sky where she meets and befriends an alien.
Other Media
Virtua Fighter Anime
Dural’s origins are much different in the anime than in the game versions. It had been created by robotics scientist Eva Durix through the backing of the Koenkan and later, the Rafale Corporation after Eva had a fallout with the Koenkan. Unlike her video game counterpart, she has no connection to Kage-Maru.
In the second season, she comes back as a new Model called Dural Gold, made again by Eva Durix, this version is much stronger than the normal one. She can learn from other fighters, also she can assume all of their fighting styles.

V-Dural appears as a rival unit in the tactical role-playing game Project X Zone.
